Nice hotel...good stay. Be advised that the single rooms are incredibly small by western standards. If you are big or have a lot of luggage, you should upgrade to a larger room. Hotel is in a good location. A subway station is next door and a train (JR) and subway station is 5 minutes walk to the north. The station has numerous shops, restaurants and two largedepartment stores. For those who have to have it, MacDonalds is approximately 150 yards north. Hotel has a guest lounge on the second floor with four computers with internet access. Front desk staff are very helpful and all speak some english. I noted that there were people constantly cleaning and polishing in the lobby, even things that didn;t need to be cleaned. The area where the hotel is located seemed to be very safe, great for those who are out until the wee hours of the morning walking around. I made one local phone call from my room and talked for about 10 minutes. When I checked out I was charged * yen (about* cents)!

This is a beautiful, sleek, modern hotel with actual non-smoking rooms. The breakfast was lovely, but a bit pricey. There is a 24 hour MacDonald's down the block and an am/pm minimart across the street for snacks or less expensive breakfast options. The staff was very helpful and polite. The location was perfect...1 block from the Shinjuku train station (which is a hub for getting just about anywhere) and nearby to the hopping part of the Shinjuku district without actually being in it. I stayed one night at the Prince Hotel in Shinjuku because the Sunroute Plaza was sold out, and the Prince was too centrally located (at the edge of the red light district!). Walk the 5 minutes to the neon part of Shinjuku but stay at the peaceful Sunroute Plaza. You'll be very happy that you did!

I was traveling alone on university business and thought Shinjuku would be handy because so many trains go through that set of stations. Completely true - and a little overwhelming until I got the hang of it. Hotel staff very helpful. Use the "Happy Limousine Bus" or JR Express train from Narita (about * yen for either, but bus goes right to hotel and train means negotiating commuters and tourists with your luggage). Upscale grocery store in basement of Tokyo Hands Dept store across plaza from past Krispy Kreme. Room was quite small and a bit dirty feeling after coming from a larger and immaculate business hotel in Seoul. Bathroom tiny. But after the first of my 8 nights, I got used to moving the desk chair over to use as a bedside table (there wasn't one). Limited English-language television (CNN World News). Speedy wired internet. If you can handle feeling like you're in a combination of Times Square and Central Station, a great location for touring and decent enough if a business trip on a shoestring will have you all over the west side of city (as I was). But for the price, I'd probably stay there again if I needed access to the train system. As a woman traveling alone, I look for safe and sanitary, then try to get whatever else I can on my limited budget. In this case, I got a bustling location, a small but serviceable room, and (of all things) a pants press in my closet cubby. Bed and bedding quite good. Bathroom very small but good shower and, if it's your thing, a fancy toilet of the sort that the Japanese seem to prefer. Can't comment on that, since I didn't partake of its many mysterious functions.

All the rest of the reviews are spot on. The Sunroute Plaza is an excellent hotel, quite affordable, and so very convenient to the subway and the rest of Tokyo. I stayed by myself in a single and the bed was large, bathroom clean and it was very easy to pick up spare toiletries at the lobby. Now, travel tips: When exiting the hotel, take a right at the street and use the elevator 40ft away to take you to the subway. Very nice if it's raining. Also, to save yourself a headache and the embarassment of having no fare on your ticket when trying to leave the subway, just fork over the * yen for a daily pass. It's usable on ALL the subways, and while it's not useful for the buses, trust me when I say that the subway is the #1 way to travel Tokyo. Just get off at the district you want, and walk around. The subway runs from 5am to 2am, so unless you are out late drinking with a bunch of japanese businessmen(which is very fun btw), you don't have to worry about missing your train. No need to worry about language either, because while not every Japanese person knows English, people in customer service positions will be able to work with you and figure out what you want as long as you are polite about it. Final tip: if you visit anytime when it's not winter, carry *yen coins around and avail yourself of the THOUSANDS of vending machines every 60ft that carry sports drinks or tea because while it may not be hot outside, it is humid and walking around will get you dehydrated.

Very nice, clean hotel with a pleasant and helpful staff. Hard to find from the Shinjuku JR station, but only a short walk. Directions: find the South Exit; go and turn left. Ahead you see a white and glass overhead pedestrian walk way. Walk down the street under it. Ahead on the other side of street you will see a large orange clock at the "something" Kitchen. Turn left on that street, you'll see a McDonalds across the street, go past it a little bit and you'll see a brown building with a sign out front "Sunroute Hotel". You've made it. We just saved you and hour of asking people who don't understand English enough to help
